Will Invisalign treatment be painful?

Will Invisalign treatment be painful?

If you're considering straightening your smile with Invisalign clear aligners, you may be wondering if Invisalign treatment is painful. Here, our North Delta dentists tell you a little about what you can expect from your Invisalign treatment.

Comfort is important when considering your options for orthodontic treatment. Most of our patients tell us that Invisalign's clear aligners don’t cause any pain, just slight discomfort that you gradually get used to and forget about over time.

We suggest you think of Invisalign aligners like a new pair of shoes; once you've worn them for a while, you'll begin to get used to how they feel.

Adjusting to Wearing Aligners

As with traditional metal braces, there is an adjustment period when wearing Invisalign.

To give you a straighter smile Invisalign gradually shifts your teeth into the desired positions. In order to do that, the aligners have to put pressure on the teeth which may cause some discomfort.

This discomfort is most often felt during the first few days after putting in a new set of aligners, then gradually wears off, until you put the next set in.

Invisalign doesn't have any irritating metal brackets or wires, but the aligners may still irritate the soft tissues of your mouth until you become accustomed to them.

Be patient, given a little time your gums and cheeks will toughen up and the aligners will no longer cause you discomfort.
